Mobira Cityman, Nokia’s first handheld mobile phone, was priced at $4500 and took six hours to charge. When it was fully charged, it could deliver one hour of battery life.

When compared with contemporary standards, it seems quite astonishing. This beautiful phone had a Nickel-Cadmium battery in it and this was in the year 1987.

Two years later, Nickel-Metal Hydride had started to come into the limelight and was eventually employed in the cell phones. Soon after 1991, lithium-ion batteries took over and have continued to reign since then.
