Last year’s data shows a continuous increase in EV demand across India. Rarely a week passes without any new development in the EV industry and the market. To make it easy for all the EV buff’s out there, here we are trying to summarize the recent updates and developments in the industry.

July and August 2022 EV sales trend

In August 2022, 87038 EVs were sold compared to 78829 in July 2022. There was an overall rise of around 10% from July 2022. Out of 87038, electric 2W and 3W vehicles (passenger and cargo) accounted for 82440; the rest were for four-wheelers and the electric bus. However, a drop of around 3% was observed in the sales of four-wheelers and three-wheeler cargo vehicles from July’s sale. On the other hand, E-2 wheeler and E-3W passenger sales have risen by 13% and 9.7 %, respectively. One can analyze the data from the graph below.

XUV 400 – Mahindra’s First Electric SUV

Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has recently unveiled its first E-SUV, XUV 400, expected to be launched in January 2023. Treading the path followed by its competitor, the TATA Nexon, M&M has used its XUV 300 and adapted it into an EV. M&M has developed this EV in collaboration with the partner, LG Energy Solution from South Korea, who would supply batteries to Mahindra’s first electric SUV.

The test drive of the SUV will begin in December 2022 across 16 cities. Some important features of this SUV are as follows:

1) 0-100 km/hr. in 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 150 km/hr.

2) A 456 km range on a full charge.

3) A battery pack of IP67 standard.

4) Have a width, wheelbase and overall length of 1821mm, 2600mm and 4200mm, respectively.

5) A boot space of 378litres/418litres.

Launch of OTUA, A 3-Wheelers Cargo EV by Dandera Ventures

A Gurgaon-based sustainable mobility start-up, Dandera Ventures, has launched a cargo 3-Wheeler, OTUA, on 9th Sept 2022(World EV Day). Pre-booking of OTUA has already begun and is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of next year. Interestingly, Dandera Ventures showcased their OTUA in the first season of the much-talked-about program Shark Tank India.

This vehicle has been developed keeping in mind the logistics industry and delivery companies. OTUA offers a range of 165 km on a single charge, further expandable to over 300 km. It comes with a volume of 183 CC and a load carrying capacity of 900 kg. The price of this cargo vehicle will be between Rs 3,50,000 to ₹5,50,000, and there will be an option of subscription too.

Launch of Zor Grand, A 3-Wheelers Cargo EV by Mahindra

A part of Mahindra group, Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited (MEML) launched the all-new cargo electric three-wheeler Zor Grand in August 2022. The new vehicle features NEMO (cloud-based mobility platform) connected vehicle platform for fleet management and better operational efficiency. The vehicle has a range of 100 Km on a single charge. Zor Grand has already secured 12,000-plus bookings through Memorandum of Understanding with logistics companies like Magenta EV Solutions, MoEVing, EVnow, Yelo EV, Zyngo and the obvious Mahindra Logistics. The vehicle has an ex-showroom price of 3,60,000.

Launch of Etryst350, An Electric motorcycle by PURE EV

In August 2022, has launched its first electric motorcycle, ETRYST350. This EV has been completely designed, developed and manufactured in India. In a single full charge, the ETRYST350 provides a range of 140 km with a top speed of 85km/hr. The battery of the EV is AIS-156 certified and has been developed by PURE EV.

Yulu Raises $82 million in a series B funding round led by Magna International Inc.

With a target of more than a lakh Electric 2-Wheelers and more than 500 battery charging and swapping stations in the next year, Yulu has raised $82 million in its series B funding round. Yulu has also established a partnership with DMRC(Delhi Metro Rail Corporation), NDMC(New Delhi Municipal Committee), Bengaluru Metro and Mumbai’s BMC for parking and charging infrastructure.
