BMC sets up Mumbai's first public electric vehicle charging station

Aditya Thackeray who is the Environment Minister of Maharashtra inaugurated Mumbai’s first public Electric Vehicle Charging Station. This charging station is installed by the BMC at a public parking area in Dadar.

As per the details released by BMC, this charging station can charge 7 EVs at a time. This makes it one of its kind facility to come up at public parking. This is the very first of many more to come as a civic body has been directed by Mr. Thackeray to develop and install public EV charging stations at various parking lots.

EV charging stations at public parking lots make a lot of sense and provide extra convenience to the EV user. This will further attract non-EVs users using that parking lot as well.

In areas with a high number of electric vehicles, it is necessary to give priority to smart charging stations. In this regard, a detailed survey should be conducted and charging stations should be made available in more and more parking lots,” Mr. Thackeray.

The 4 out of 7 charging points are fast charging which can fully charge an EV in 1 to 1.5 hours. The other three are the slow charging chargers. The slow chargers can fully charge an EV in six hours.
